Darren King

I’m Darren, an AI engineer with a background in emergency medicine. After around a decade working as a doctor, I retrained in computer science and software engineering, then completed an MSc in AI at Queen’s University Belfast.

I work mainly in Python. This site is for my projects and notes on machine learning, AI, Linux and software development. Some have a medical connection, some don't.

• DNABERT-2 for colorectal enhancer classification

  MSc research · arXiv preprint, 2025

  For my MSc, I fine-tuned DNABERT-2 to investigate whether DNA sequence alone could distinguish normal from tumour-associated colorectal enhancers. The work covered data preparation, model training and evaluation.
